The first of two tornadoes, but more was in store! |

This was one of those chases that a bit of everything; waiting, good storms, tornadoes, and amazing lightning! Anytime one of these chases presents itself, its a wonderful thing! Today certainly did!
We kicked off the day in Amarillo, TX figuring on positioning in the Texas Panhandle for the day. We ended up back-tracking into Southeast Colorado where we got on a couple of young storms. One blossomed into a large HP which went on to produce a pair of tornadoes in the Oklahoma Panhandle; both in Texas County. Once darkness fell, we headed north into Garden City, but not before stopping to enjoy the amazing light show outside of Liberal.

The young twins moving off the Raton Mesa into Southeast Colorado.

Looking between the cells.

A developing storm behind the twins.

One of the storms finally matures into an HP monster.

Decent structure, not as good as the Limon storm.

A large funnel decends north of Eva, Oklahoma; other spotters reported a touchdown.

A surprise tornado considering the amount of outflow this storm was generating.

The second rope tornado at dusk, this was we confirmed touching down about 10 or so miles west of Guymon, OK.
Once darkness fell, we began our trip north to our overnight stay in Garden City and stopped to shoot some amazing lightning. I took my chances in missing the sure bolts to aim at a house on the north side of Liberal in hopes I would make a great shot. I pulled three.

One of my best artsy lightning photos to date!

Another great shot with the house.

Another cool shot with the house.

I like this shot cause of the constrast in light. Unfortunately the bolts washed out.

Centering the house hoping for a strike near the road, but got another looking like a strike on the house.
I got some other decent shots without the house...

Web-crawler. This was a fun shot which Verne, Michael, and myself nailed.
