I am on-scene at 32nd and Kipling starring down a row of four powerpoles that were snalled at the base and are leaning, being supported by the wires. Just around 10:30pm, I witnessed a funnel and powerflash as I was enroute to shoot what I thought was gonna be a flood/hail event. RFD-type winds overtook me on I-70 between Wadsworth and Kipling about the time of the tornado. I have video of the winds on the interstate, but was fairly unprepared to document a tornado.
There was no way to keep pace with it as the roads in Wheat Ridge quickly became nightmare with very large trees down, wires across roads, and extensive flooding due to rain and hail. I have been documenting damage most of the evening and did two live phoners for 7News.
I will have to make a trip back home to get some batteries and more gear, but figure to be out most of the night documenting the damage that occured out here. I’ll post updates throughout the morning.
