Severe storms developed late morning and moved across southern Illinois during the early afternoon hours prompting the NWS to issue several warnings. The storms generated some high winds that reportedly knocked out some power lines in neighboring Franklin County, but also dumped torrential rains that caused minor street flooding in parts of Jackson County, including Carbondale. Doppler radar estimates that over 2 inches of rain fell in an hour across portions of Jackson County as the storms moved through.
